Our office is prepared to assist with many aspects of maternity care. Women often have structural problems such as low back pain and sciatica, rib pressure and upper back tension, neck pain, headaches and carpal tunnel symptoms. Chiropractic care is often used throughout the pregnancy as a woman’s body changes. We are equipped with a table to accommodate the growing belly and are trained in special prenatal techniques. The doctors are certified by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) in the Webster Technique of pelvic balance that can assist with breech position. In addition, acupuncture services are available and often used to help with morning sickness, structural problems, breech position and post due-date labor stimulation. It is always exciting to follow a woman through this wonderful time and then meet the baby on her post-partum check up.
Women can seek help throughout life for hormone related issues, such as menstrual migraines and tension headaches, irregular cycles, hot flashes, sleep problems and back pain. Various approaches can be explored including chiropractic care, acupuncture, diet and nutrition evaluation and possible food sensitivities.
Birth can sometimes be a stressful event with occasional pressures to the baby’s head, shoulders or hips. We often check newborns with gentle touch to make sure they have entered the world aligned and ready to grow into happy, healthy babies. Proper neck and cranial motion can help prevent the tendency for congestion and ear infection as they teethe and meet new germs in the world. And of course, all growing children experience topples, bumps and falls. Chiropractic care can help smooth out any misalignments before they become injury patterns. As a child grows from infancy to teens years, it can be helpful to have periodic check-ups to keep the spine aligned and thus the nervous system as healthy as possible. The teen years are then a very important time in chiropractic care to monitor for scoliosis, treat sports injury and keep an eye on posture and growth patterns.
Many people have obvious problems with their jaw including pain, popping, clenching, grinding, abnormal tooth wear and even having the jaw get stuck in the open or closed position. There can be other problems associated with the jaw such as tingling or shooting pain in the face, headaches and head tenderness, vertigo or dizziness, facial tics and eye twitching, neck and upper back tension, ear pain or muffled hearing. The doctors at our office are qualified to evaluate the mechanics of the jaw joint as well as cranial sutures and work with uncomplicated TMD or temporomandibular dysfunction. If the case is more complex, they also work closely with some of the area dentists and with noted Harrisonburg TMD specialist, Brian Reichgotte, D.D.S. Often a combined approach is utilized with a specific dental bite guard or orthotic treatment plan and chiropractic support of the spine and cranium. Patients often find the jaw pain subsides and other problems do as well.
NAET is an innovative approach for identifying and then desensitizing the body to environmental and/or food allergens. It is completely natural, painless and non-invasive. NAET is a combination of various health care disciplines, including chiropractic, acupuncture, kinesiology and nutrition. Homeopathic test bottles are used to check for the substances the body does not tolerate such as dairy, wheat, nuts, pollens, molds and perfume. A series of acupressure points are massaged to help the body ignore the old sensitive response and create a new healthy reaction. There is no direct exposure to an allergen so the technique is very safe and can be used with children and adults. Both doctors had the opportunity to study with the founder of NAET, Dr. Devi Nambudripad, MD, DC, LAc., PhD.
NAET is not covered by insurance.
